In this part of the Handbook we discuss existing standards on information processing in Indian languages. These chapters are not meant to duplicate information from the standards themselves; instead we examine these standards from the point of view of a software implementor
The rest of this part is organized as follow:
Chapter 4 is a general introduction to the available standards for Indian language processing.
Chapter 5 examines the IS13194 character set standard, popularly known as ISCII.
Chapter 6 examines a companion standard to ISCII that covers font encodings.
Chapter 7 examines a standard for Indian language pagers.
Chapter 8 examines a character set definition for the southern Indian language of Kannada.
Chapter 9 examines a character set definition for the southern Indian language of Tamil.
Chapter 10 examines the Unicode character set standard and the looks at the issues involved in implementing indian language support based on Unicode.
