About the Indic-Computing logo

Zero. Zero is India's contribution to mathematics. Centuries before computing as we know it was born, the number Zero had been in use in India. Zero is also at the heart of all computing.

It is only fitting then, that the logo of the Indic-Computing Project draws inspiration from India's greatest contribution to mathematics.

Look deeper into the logo. From the center of the logo, you may just see One emerging, as a primitive shape, highlighted by the green. Together these two numbers form the pulse of computing.

In the shape of the Zero, the designer also wishes to invest echoes of the Brahmaand, the cosmic egg in ancient Hindu mythology, from which all creation arose. Seen again, the shape also looks whole and complete in itself.

The colour green signifies life, birth, and freshness. The colour orange signifies energy.

The logo type has been set in Helvetica Bold to enhance the impression of modern, forward-looking computing. The letters are tightly tracked and kerned to form a compact pattern of clean letters. In the play of the logo and the logo type, notice how the 'o' of 'Computing' appears centered around the center of the Zero bringing a 3-D perspective to the design.

The source code for this logo is available for further study.
