The Indic-Computing documentation toolchain is built on a number of open-source software packages. Rather than have a potential contributor tediously install these packages one by one, having a ``meta'' package o that brings in everything required as dependencies would help in getting people started up quickly.
Since different OSes have different packaging mechanisms, packages will need to be created for each OS which we intend to support.
The list of software packages that the project documentation toolchain uses is listed in the Indic-Computing Documentation Infrastructure article.
The documentation toolchain has already been packaged for FreeBSD and is available for download. This can be used for study.
Knowledge of the packaging system that each OS uses. For example, some Linux based OSes use RPM based packaging while Debian GNU/Linux uses a different packaging scheme. The BSD OSes use ``ports'' for compiling packages from source and also have a binary package distribution mechanism.
Exposure to software development on the platform for which the packaging is being done.
This work would require you to download a significant number of binary packages and source tarballs, so a high-bandwidth connection to the Internet is recommended. You will also need a machine with a reasonably fast I/O system, and a recent version of the OS you are developing the package for.
About 1--2 weeks (max) per package creation for a developer with reasonable experience.
A good starter project for a new developer.
