The Indic-Computing Handbook is a large reference document for Indian language software developers. In order to be really useful, it needs an well-prepared Index.
Creating a high-quality index is a surprisingly tricky job, and is work that is best done by humans. We need volunteers to review the Handbook and create the appropriate index entries in its sources.
There are a number of resources on preparing indexes available on the Internet:
The Indic-Computing Documentation Build Infrastructure document explains how the project manages its documentation.
As with all index creation, knowledge of the subject matter is necessary. Familiarity with the DocBook markup language is also needed, but this is easy to learn. Exposure to Unix-based documentation management would be a plus. A flair for technical writing would be a plus.
Initial pass: Not estimated. Subseqently, maintaining the Index as the Handbook's content keeps changing will be an ongoing job.

A good starter project for a student technical documentation professional, wanting to do high-quality work.
